Recapping the Success of the CRMC Foundation’s Thankful Thursdays Initiative

From the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic, we knew that it would take a group effort to combat the virus in our community. And in March, we became the beneficiary of vital personal protective equipment (PPE) and supplies that would help keep our team safe as they treated patients with complications from the virus.

Our community came through in a big way. Over the course of 15 Thankful Thursdays, an initiative led by the CRMC Foundation, our hospital received donations from people living as close as right down the street to as far as North Carolina and California. Here’s a breakdown of the range of items we received since our first Thankful Thursday event on March 26:

  • More than 5,000 hand-sewn masks
  • More than 2,000 N95 masks
  • Additional PPE supplies such as cleaners, gowns, sanitizers, gloves, etc., including a vanload full of PPE from College of Southern Maryland
  • More than 100 contributions from schools, churches, businesses, and social and charitable organizations
  • Several meal and snack drop-offs by local businesses and individuals to feed our team
  • Dozens of hanging geranium baskets from Melwood
  • A 50-gallon donation of bleach from Clorox

Food donations proved especially important in keeping our team energized as they faced this unprecedented crisis. While we have thanked each donor personally, we have highlighted a sweet list of organizations for their support:

  • Apple Spice Junction
  • Dash In/The Wills Group
  • Domino’s Pizza – La Plata
  • Hooper Associates
  • Jersey Mike’s
  • Little Caesars (locally selected as the recipient of the national “Pie It Forward” campaign which donated 1 million pizzas to front line workers)
  • Local real estate agents and brokers
  • Pizza Hotline
  • Rita’s of La Plata
  • Rotary Club of La Plata
  • Silver Skewers

As we continue the fight against COVID-19, it is important to reflect on all of the generous donors who contributed masks, food, and more at our Thankful Thursday collections. Here’s CRMC Foundation Executive Director Susan Vogel with a special message for everyone who helped make this effort so successful.

Although our Thankful Thursdays initiative has come to a close, you can still support the fight against COVID-19 in your community by contributing to the CRMC Foundation’s Resiliency Fund. To learn more or make a donation, visit the official fundraising page or call (301) 609-4132
